Whether it’s for a portrait, a product shoot, or a special event, preparing for a photoshoot is the key to a successful shoot. A little bit of preparation will go a long way, so I’m here to share how to look, feel, and be your best self. Here’s your guide to get ready for the big day.

1. Choose Your Outfit

The right can change the outcome of how you look in your photos. Here are a few tips to ensure you wear something appropriate:

  • Bring multiple sets of clothes. If you’re unsure of what colours, patterns, or styles of clothes you should bring, you can bring multiple sets and try them out during the photoshoot.
  • Dress to your goals. If you’re planning on doing a country-style shoot, bring jeans and plaid, or however you think you look good in that style. If you want to match a bubbly personality, wear bright colours to match the mood you’re trying to portray.

2. Get Good Rest the Night Before

Sleep is crucial for everyday life and health, but especially important for your looks. You want to treat your body right. Get lots of sleep to reduce any eyebags you may develop. Try not to drink too much alcohol or caffeine the night before. This is also important to keep your energy and confidence levels high!

3. Communicate with Your Photographer

It’s important to have your goals aligned with your photographer to ensure everyone is on the same page and your photo dreams can become a reality.

  • Don’t be shy. Express your visions and ideas. A skilled photographer will be able to assist you with poses, expressions, and give good feedback.
  • Ask to see the photos. If you’re unsure if the photos are turning out well, ask the photographer to see the photos during a quick break between photos. This way you can tweak your facial expressions or movement or even restore some confidence!

In my experience as a photographer, following these tips can help you feel more comfortable and confident for your photoshoot. If you go in feeling like a trainwreck, I can assure you that it’ll reflect in your performance and outcome. Relax, and enjoy the photoshoot, you’re looking great!
